Exclusive Representation

Exclusive representation means that in a union shop, all workers are represented by the same union. That gives their voice power and unity. The Buckeye Institute knows this, so they are fighting against it. They want to divide your union and silence your voice on the job.

Immediately following the Janus decision, the Buckeye Institute filed an amicus brief along with eighteen right-wing think tanks in an attempt to dismantle unions’ right to exclusive representation.

When Jade Thompson, a public school teacher in Marietta and the wife of a right-wing conservative former state lawmaker, wanted to reap the benefits of her union without paying her fair share dues, the Buckeye Institute jumped at the chance to help her case. The Buckeye Institute thinks that workers should get the benefits of a union – like better wages and safer working conditions – without paying their fair share.
